Lake Bergheide
Bergheider See captivates with the impressive backdrop of the F60 visitor mine. The former overburden conveyor bridge is undoubtedly the most spectacular relic of open-cast lignite mining in Lusatia. It is the largest moving machine in the world. From a height of 74 metres you can look down on Bergheider Lake and the neighbouring NABU nature reserve "Naturparadies Grünhaus". Cultural and sporting events with the very special atmosphere of the Bergheider See and the "lying Eiffel Tower" inspire many guests. In summer, thousands of visitors dance and party at festivals on Bergheider See. The beach on the shallow northern shore is wide and has the finest sand. Bathing is possible, but sanitary facilities and catering are only available on a mobile basis during the bathing season. Bergheider See is open for public use and for muscle-powered water sports. The good westerly wind already provides good conditions for surfing and sailing. An innovative AUTARTEC house floats in the harbour basin of Bergheider See. This is a research project for the self-sufficient supply of floating houses. Furthermore, there is a conference boat in the harbour which can be rented by groups.
Further investments in the tourism infrastructure and the development of the lake will follow in the coming years.
Bergheider See was created until 2014 by flooding the former Klettwitz-Nord open-cast lignite mine.
