Lausitzer Seenland Landmark
The Lausitzer Seenland Landmark is better known to the locals as the “Rusty Nail”. Located at the point where the Sornoer Kanal opens into Lake Sedlitzer See, the “rusty” observation tower has become one of the most popular destinations in the Lusatian Lake District. The striking architectural creation in rust-red corten steel represents the region’s transformation from a mining area to a place with a new future. The tower stands 30 metres high. It is an ideal rest area for walkers, cyclists and skaters and also offers an impressive panoramic view of the expansive lakeland scenery – making it ideal for observing the development of the Lusatian Lake District. From the viewing platform, it is possible to see Lake Sedlitzer See, Lake Geierswalder See and Lake Partwitzer See.
There is a snack bar and toilets plus parking at the foot of the observation tower.
