ZCOM Zuse-Computer-Museum
Life without a computer is absolutely unimaginable today. But how did its exciting history begin? At ZCOM, you can immerse yourself in the exciting history of the computer. With the knowledge of those born later, it is hard to imagine how Zuse and his colleagues approached the digital machine: Which material works well? Is a relay memory the right choice? Is the use of the binary system a mistake? The computer pioneer Konrad Zuse was neither born nor died in Hoyerswerda. But the few years he spent here as a youth in the 1920s (he did his Abitur in Hoyerswerda) were well worth it for the city to make him an honorary citizen in 1995 and, on top of that, to open a museum named after him in 2017.
Impressed by the size of the old Zuse computers, a rapid development is revealed and opportunities and risks of the digital world are recognised. Among other things, the advantages of binary code are considered. But don't worry, it doesn't get too theoretical. Technology is linked with society and art. The why and wherefore are asked. In the modern permanent exhibition at the ZCOM Zuse Computer Museum, incredible computer success stories are presented.
