Lake Altdöbern
Lake Altdöbern is currently being flooded. The former Greifenhain open-cast mine is already about two-thirds full. The end of flooding is planned for 2030. The lake is currently still subject to mining rehabilitation. Investments in the tourism infrastructure and the development of the lake will follow in the coming years. The focus will be on health, vitality and landscape culture.
Today, holidaymakers can already get active at Lake Altdöbern. The asphalted service road of the mining reclamation company LMBV along the southern shore is well suited for cycling and offers interesting views of the lake. The Pritzen peninsula juts out into the emerging Altdöbern Lake. During the European Biennials in the post-mining landscape in 1993 and 1995, 23 art objects and unusual works were created. The majority have already disappeared because weathering materials were used or a site was chosen in the residual open-cast mining hole that has since been turned into a lake. Others can still be found, but after almost 30 years they have been overgrown by new life. Of many of the landscape impressions that inspired the artists at the time, only photographic memories remain. Parking is available at the Randriegel viewpoint south of Altdöbern and at the "Gelbe Rampe" viewpoint in Pritzen.
