Lake Neuwiese
Lake Neuwiese is currently being flooded and lies partly within a restriction zone. The lake will replace the decommissioned Bluno open-cast mine. Lake Neuwiese forms part of the Lusatian Lakeland nature conservation project and is particularly well suited to quiet, low-impact outdoor experiences.
The flooding of Lake Neuwiese is scheduled to be completed in 2023. Plans for the lake include canal links to nearby Lake Partwitz, Lake Bluno and Lake Bergen.
Lake Neuwiese cannot be used for tourism purposes at present because access to large parts of the area has been restricted.
Cyclists are free to use the path along the south-western edge of the lake. This path consists in part of an existing service road of the mining reclamation company LMBV.
Facts and figures
- Size of the lake: 641 ha
- Max. depth: 17 metres
