Lake Scheibe
Lake Scheibe is the local lake of the town of Hoyerswerda. Swimming has been permitted on the lake’s western beach since 2017. The 13-kilometre asphalted lakeside trail is suitable for cycling and for athletic skaters. The surface of the path is of medium quality. Further sports and leisure facilities as well as holiday accommodation and cafés/restaurants are currently in the planning stages. The construction of a jetty and a slipway for boats also forms part of the plans for this lake.
Lake Scheibe was created by flooding the former Scheibe lignite mine, a process which was completed in 2011. A village by the name of Scheibe existed in this location until the mid-1980s.
