Stages and theatres
Neue Bühne Senftenberg has successfully built a reputation that now extends well beyond the region. The playhouse, which was named Theatre of the Year in 2005, puts on a diverse and ambitious programme that ranges from adaptations of classic plays to contemporary theatre and musical evenings.
Between June and August, the Neue Bühne theatre company also stages open-air performances at the 600-seat amphitheatre on the banks of Lake Senftenberg. On warm summer nights, visitors flock to this outdoor venue to enjoy comedies, children’s plays and concerts. The structure was built in the Greco-Roman style and has been a great addition to the arts scene around Lake Senftenberg since 2001.
The Theater im Ohr (theatre in the ear) at Lake Bärwald also offers a unique outdoor experience. The OHR in Boxberg, Upper Lusatia, is a walk-in landscape structure built entirely from sand. It is around 350 metres long, 250 metres wide and up to 18 metres high and is shaped like a giant ear. The structure has a stage at its heart and offers seating for 270 spectators. More than a dozen events take place here over the summer months.
Visitors are also welcome at many other venues across the Lusatian Lakeland, such as the Lausitzhalle and the Kulturfabrik in Hoyerswerda.
