Sailing in the Lusatian Lakeland
The Lusatian Lakeland is great for sailing, with Lake Senftenberg, Lake Geierswalde and Lake Bärwalde the most popular locations. The lakes’ harbours and marinas offer a comprehensive service for sailing, with moorings, sailing courses, boat hire and a slipway for launching boats. Sailing is also possible on Lake Partwitz, Lake Dreiweibern, Spremberg reservoir and Lake Halbendorf, but these lakes do not have boat hire facilities. Should you discover that you are truly in your element on the water, you can obtain a sports boat licence in the Lusatian Lakeland.
The region is becoming increasingly suitable for water touring. The first navigable canal in the Lusatian Lakeland linked Lake Senftenberg and Lake Geierswalde. Over the next few years, a total of ten lakes will be connected in the same way. On the canals, sailing boats will require a folding mast in order to be able to pass through locks, tunnels and under bridges.
The Lusatian Lakeland is already a byword among sailing enthusiasts, both locally and further afield. In recent years, some high-calibre sailing regattas have helped to put Lusatia’s new water sports region on the map.
