Margarethenhütte Electro-porcelain Museum
The production of porcelain insulators is impressively demonstrated in the historic circular kiln building from 1885. 17 exhibition rooms over three floors offer informative films and a high-voltage test field that provides deep insights into technical processes. A special highlight is the faithfully furnished parlour from grandmother's time, equipped with antique electrical appliances and ceramic insulators. The outdoor area also houses impressive large-scale exhibits and a functioning crude oil engine from 1938 that still generates electricity today.
Historically, the museum shows the development from an original lignite mining company that struck clay in the mid-19th century, to a pottery factory named after the daughter of the King of Saxony, to one of the leading producers of technical porcelain.
This museum is perfect for history buffs, technology enthusiasts and anyone who wants to learn more about the importance of porcelain in electrical engineering.
