Barbara Canal

The Barbara Canal is a navigable waterway linking Lake Geierswalde and Lake Partwitz. The canal is open to all watercraft, provided they comply with relevant regulations.

The official entry point for boats (slipway) is via the short-stay mooring area on Lake Geierswalde. There is no officially approved slipway at Lake Partwitz.

Canal

• Length: 1,150m
• Maximum permitted draft: ≤ 1.20m
• Level of canal bed : 97.5m above sea level

Weir:

• Max. clearance width: 5.20m
• Max. clearance height: 3.05m when at 101.00m above sea level

Please note that the regulations applicable to the Geierswalde and Partwitz lakes also apply in full.

• The provisions of the inland waterways regulation (BinSchStrO) also apply, including the general duty of care pursuant to section 1.04 BinSchStrO.
• Boats are not permitted to berth on the canals.

Passage through the canal

• Boats are allowed into the canal at half past the hour when travelling westwards from Lake Geierswalde, and on the full hour when travelling eastwards from Lake Partwitz. There is a ten minute window for entry.
• Waiting places are available in the lakes’ mooring areas (max. waiting time: 50 minutes)
• At their permitted time, boats may enter the canal in procession.
• If the event of accident or emergency, or if a boat needs to moor up as a result of failure to comply with the one-way traffic regulations, short stops may be made in front of the weir.
• Ships may moor on both sides, motor boats and pleasure craft up to 3.00m wide may moor canalside.
• The passage through the weir and bridge is a pinchpoint in the Barbara Canal.

The Barbara Canal is open all year.
