How much does it cost to use the lock in the Koschen Canal? When is the lock open? How long does it take to pass through the lock? What types of boat are permitted on the canal?
There is no charge to use the Koschen Canal between Lake Geierswalde and Lake Senftenberg. During high season, the lock is open from 9am to 10pm. The lock-keeper is available until 7pm and can provide assistance if you have any problems or questions. After 7pm boaters have to operate the lock themselves.
It takes approximately 15 minutes to pass through the lock, and around 50 minutes to get from one end of the kilometre-long canal to the other. The lock chamber has usable dimensions of 29 x 6 metres.
The canal is open to all types of watercraft but it is important to remember that they must be no more than 6 metres wide, 3.5 metres tall and 29 metres long. Sailing boats must be able to fold down their masts.
The lock-keeper is the person to contact for all matters relating to the lock and the canal.
